Our Custom Options

Our Wood Options

We use the finest wood we can find. We only source from renewable, managed forests. Our selected lumber is then carefully sawn into wide, thick planks which give our beds the distinctive look of a treasured heirloom.

We work primarily in Maple, Tiger Maple (also known as Curly Maple), Mahogany, Cherry, Walnut, Oak, Ash and Poplar. We will procure exotic and unusual domestic or foreign woods by request.

Our Post Options

Our beds are named after their post design. You can change any element on the bed except the post-style when ordering that specific bed. We can easily alter the post height or eliminate foot posts. Below are the posts in our line. Of course, we can make custom posts from a picture, your own design or a modification of one of our posts.
We consider any change to our posts (other than height) a Custom Bed Design and will be quoted accordingly.

Our Post Height Options

Some posts might be too tall for a room and some might be too low. We want you to have the post height that is just right. Our beds come with three general sizes below:

Low generally between 45-56 inches (finials n/a)
Field Height generally between 65-72 inches plus the finial
Tall generally between 81- 88 inches plus the finial

Of course, we can make many posts taller or lower to fit your needs.

Our Headboard Options

Our headboards are oversized so you can see them above the pillows and shams. They can be hand-planed which will add depth and texture to a flat headboard. You can have a flat headboard or a headboard with panels. You’ll see we offer 2, 3 and 4 paneled options in a variety of ways: flat, recessed, beveled, inlaid with a contrasting wood etc. If you don’t see the perfect headboard style among our beds, we can craft one to fit your bed design.

Our Rail Options

We make our standard rails seven (7”) inches deep so they hide the box spring. That gives you the choice of having a bed skirt or not. You will see a variety of rail options with beautiful detail such as hand carving and trimmed panels. Of course, we always offer a custom option to accommodate your own design.

Our Custom Sleeping Height Options

We will adjust the bed frame to accommodate the new thicker box spring and mattresses to reach the desired sleeping height. The standard height we use is 28 inches. Some people want to use bed steps to climb into bed – no problem. Some prefer a lower bed. If we know the mattress and box spring thickness, we can craft the bed to the desired height at no extra charge

Our Canopy and Valance Options

A great number of our beds can be enhanced with a canopy or valance. There are several styles from which to choose. One can create a contemporary feel with a look like the minimal four Piece Canopy on The Metro Pencil Bed.

Our Finial Options

We offer a wide range of finial designs as we believe they are an integral part of the entire presentation. We go to great lengths to design the perfect finial for each bed. All are carefully hand-made. While we have all the shapes you’d expect, we have some that are quite unusual such as our hand-carved birds.
If you have a design choice that you do not see represented, please know that we will be happy to create a custom finial for you.

Our Finish Options

The crowning glory to our beds is our renowned finish. Our highly skilled artisans build each finish layer by layer. Be it a traditional or contemporary look, we offer an exhaustive portfolio of finish options.

We offer our finishes with either a silky-smooth or hand-planed texture, two levels of distressing and any combination of oils, sealers, stains, paints, glazes, varnishes, waxes or lacquers. Our color options include standard paints, stains and glazes or custom matched colors to achieve just the right look.

Our Specialty Mattress and Bed Options

Whether it is one of the new memory foam mattresses, an unusual size mattress or an adjustable bed, we are confident we can build a beautiful four poster frame. The same is true for water beds and any other kind of sleeping platform your client favors. We are happy to build to suit International specifications

We require the following information in order to provide a quote:

The thickness of the mattress
The thickness of the box spring (if used)
The perimeter measurement of the mattress (if it is not a standard size)
The desired sleeping height
